642,391. Pneumatic tyres. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. April 16, 1948, No. 10615. Convention date, June 27, 1947. [Class 144 (ii)] A pneumatic tyre comprises at least two plies 5, 6 consisting of wire strands embedded in rubber, each bead having at least two wire cores 7, 8 served with separate wire-fabric flipper-strips 11, 17 respectively, the outer ply 5 being folded around the inner bead-core 7, the inner ply 6 embracing the assembly of both bead-cores and finally covered by a chaferstrip 22 of textile fabric. For flexibility, the wires used in the flipper-strips are thinner than those in the main plies 5, 6; and rubber fillets 12, 18 are built into the flipper-strips above the bead cores. To avoid localized flexure of the tyre-walls under load, the folded-over edges of the fabric layers are stepped, as shown. |
