The single layer turns 1 forming transformer or other coils, which may be insulated by interwound flat strip material 2, are introduced into a mould and embedded under pressure in a mixture of an unsaturated thermo-hardenable polyester resin and glass fibres which is then hardened to form an insulating envelope. An injection moulding process may be used and supporting beams in the mould may form part of the finished structure. The envelope formed may be 1 to 2 mms. thick at 4 being thickened up to 1 cm. at 3 so that when the coils are disposed on a core the thickened parts 3 act as spacing members and provide spaces between the coils permitting air circulation. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement with two separated layers of turns for a transformer with an air space between them for cooling purposes. An example of the composition of a suitable paste is given.
