PURPOSE: 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde and a composition containing the same are provided to effectively prevent or treat cryptococcosis. CONSTITUTION: 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde prevents or treats cryptococcosis. An alkoxy group of 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde has 1-9 carbon atoms. 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde is selected from the group consisting of 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde, and 2-hydroxy-3-ethoxybenzaldehyde. A composition for preventing or treating cryptococcosis contains 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde.
