The method involves receiving a value of upstream pressure (Pamont) of an air filter, and receiving a value of downstream pressure (Paval) of the air filter. The value of the upstream pressure is compared with the value of the downstream pressure, and an alarm (A) is triggered depending on the result of the comparison. The value of upstream pressure of the air filter is received from a pressure sensor that is placed downstream of the air filter. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting clogging of an air filter of an engine.
