<p>An end (3a) of a pinion shaft (3) extending outward from the opening (2) of a gear housing (1) is inserted into a gear shaft insertion hole (8) in a yoke (7) provided at an end of a steering shaft (24). At a predetermined insertion position at which a bolt insertion hole (14) in the yoke (7) is superimposed on an engagement groove (5) in the end (3a) of the pinion shaft (3), a pinch bolt (17) is inserted from the bolt insertion hole (14). The pinch bolt (17) is inserted through the engagement groove (5), which is provided in the end (3a) of the pinion shaft (3), and tightened to tighten the yoke (7), thereby reducing the diameter of the yoke (7) to join the yoke (7) to the pinion shaft (3). When inserting the pinion shaft (3) into the gear shaft insertion hole (8) in the yoke (7), the front end (7a) of the yoke (7) and an end (20a) of the tube-shaped section (20) of a dust cover (18) disposed between the yoke (7) and the opening (2) of the housing are brought into contact with each other to restrict the bolt insertion hole (14) to the predetermined insertion position.</p> |
