Embodiments of the disclosure provide a method and apparatus for performing handover in a communication system. The communication system at least comprises a source base station, a target base station and a user equipment (UE), the source base station manages a macrocell, the target base station manages a femtocell, and the UE is served by the source base station. The method may comprise steps of: responsive to requesting to handover the UE from the macrocell to the femtocell, receiving a measurement report from the source base station; and determining whether to perform the handover based on the measurement report.
