The insert assembly (50) has a box frame (61) that carries a drive unit (101) of a fuel supply carrier (81). A sealing element with bristles made of a metallic material is provided in an expansion joint. The length of each bristles is three times the width of the expansion joint. The bristles are directed towards a furnace interior (15). The bristles are made of non-magnetizable steel which withstands a temperature of 1100[deg] C. An independent claim is included for a method for operating electric arc furnace.
