<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for tires that retains excellent processability and enhances high gas mileage and rubber strength, and a pneumatic tire having components composed of the same. <P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition for tires comprises a modified diene rubber containing a functional group interacting with silica, silica and a silane coupling agent represented by formula (1), where the content of the modified diene rubber is at least 5 mass% based on 100 mass% of the rubber components.
