This heat ray shielding material is characterized by having a metal-particle-containing layer that contains at least one type of metal particle, the thickness of the metal-particle-containing layer being 10-80 nm, the metal particles having at least 60% by number of hexagonal to circular plate-shaped metal particles, and the average thickness of the hexagonal to circular plate-shaped metal particles being no greater than 14 nm. The heat ray shielding material has favorable transparency to visible light, heat shielding performance (solar reflectance), planar shape, and scrape resistance. |
