A rake-wheel type of side-delivery rake having a frame supported on three groundwheels 2, 3, 6 and a row of rake-wheels 23, the frame includes a transverse beam 1 passing close to the foremost rake-wheel of the row and carrying two caster wheels 2, 3 one of which is located directly in front of the foremost rake-wheel and both of which have mountings 7 provided with means to receive a draw-bar 11. The frame is shaped in plan like a figure-7 the limbs 1, 5 of which are joined together by a square-section coupling piece 4 to which they are bolted. The limb 5 carries lugs 16 through which pass aligned pins 17 pivotally supporting a beam 18 on which the rake-wheels 23 are mounted by stubaxles 20. The centre stub-axle carries a bracket through which passes a threaded crank 26 bearing on a cantilever projecting from the beam 5 whereby the rake wheels may be pivotally adjusted about the axis of the pins 17 by rotation of the crank. The foremost stub axle 20 is extended through the rake-wheel, at 42, and is connected to a lifting appliance (Fig. 3) on the frame-beam 1, by a chain 41, and lever 40. The appliance comprises a ratchet 34 mounted between the limbs 27, 28 of a bracket on the beam 1, the ratchet being rotatable by a pawl 36 pivoted between the limbs of a fork 30 carried on the end of a lever arm 31 and pivoted on the pin 29 carrying the ratchet. A retaining pawl 39 pivoted on the bracket prevents reverse rotation of the pawl. Pulls on the cable 33 will raise the rake-wheels about the pins 17, through stepwise rotation of the ratchet. On pulling the lever 31 forwardly through a large angle a pin 43 contacts a part 44 on the bracket to disengage the pawl 36 and a tailpiece on the fork 30 disengages the retaining pawl 39, so allowing the rake-wheels to fall again. |
