[Also in Division C2] Vinylic monomers, e.g. vinyl chloride, ethylene, styrene, ethyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate, are polymerized using as initiator an acyl peroxycarbonic ester containing from 4 to 7 carbon atoms, e.g. an ester of the formula R-CO-O-O-CO-R<SP>1</SP>, wherein each of R and R<SP>1</SP> is an acyclic aliphatic group, provided that the total number of carbon atoms in R and R<SP>1</SP> is 5 or less. An example illustrates the polymerization of vinyl chloride. |
