<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend a service life of a fixing member to prevent deterioration in productivity by relatively moving a sheet and performing a fixing recovery operation for edge defect of the sheet with respect to the fixing member without increasing the machine size. <P>SOLUTION: A fixing device includes: a fixing member which heats an image on a sheet to be fed and fixes the image on the sheet; a sheet relative movement part which moves the sheet to be fed through the fixing member in a fed-paper crossing direction relatively to the fixing member; a fixing recovery member which comes into contact with the fixing member, polishes the surface of the fixing member and performs the fixing recovery operation; and a controller which controls the relative movement in the sheet relative movement part and the fixing recovery operation in the fixing recovery member on the basis of the size of the sheet to be fed through the fixing member. This configuration of the fixing device suppresses the size of the machine and reduces the number of operations of the recovery member so as to extend the service life of the recovery member and the maintenance cycle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
