METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MONITORING DATA RELATING TO THE TYRES OF A VEHICLE

Method for determining identities (ID) of wheel units of a vehicle and the positions, relative to the vehicle, of the wheels on which said wheel units are mounted. The vehicle is provided with a speed sensor for each wheel, and each wheel unit is provided with means for transmitting, at a predetermined angular position of the corresponding wheel about the axis thereof, a message comprising the identifier of the wheel unit. A central processing unit receives said message and an information item from said speed sensors. The method according to the invention comprises the steps of: (a) counting, for each identifier, a number "nt" of receptions of said identifier, (b) processing statistically the numbers "nt" in order to determine those identifiers (candidate identifiers) that are most likely to be the identifier of a wheel unit of the vehicle, this step ending when the number of candidate identifiers is at least equal to the number of wheels of the vehicle, (c) determining that a candidate identifier is the identifier of a wheel unit if said candidate identifier satisfies a predetermined criterion with respect to at least one reception time of said candidate identifier and to the angular position of a wheel at said time, and locating the speed sensor on the vehicle.
