Polyphase switchgear, which may be of the fixed or horizontally or vertically withdrawable type, comprises a structural member 12 of electrically-insulating plastics material, e.g. epoxy resin, with terminals or isolating contacts 14, 15 projecting from one side of the member and having connections 17 passing through the member to a circuit-breaker 16 on the opposite side of the member. Metal plates 19 are embedded in the member 12 and support at least one rotatable shaft 29 of the circuit-breaker operating mechanism. The ends of the metal plates which are embedded are covered with a coating of insulating material, e.g. nylon, which extends well outside the member to increase the creepage path between phases. |
