<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type electrophoretic display configured to further reduce the number of writing times. <P>SOLUTION: The display is characterized in that microcapsules each incorporating a plurality of charging particles are arranged on a plurality of pixel electrodes, and brightness and darkness are displayed by controlling the charging particles by the potentials of the pixel electrodes.
