Provided is a vehicular electronic control device with which it is possible to connect an external device to a vehicle, and to overwrite a program relating to vehicle control by connecting to an onboard LAN, comprising: an authentication terminal which is separate from the external device and which is portable; a vehicle-side authentication system which is connected to the onboard LAN, which carries out authentication of the authentication terminal, and which is capable of transmitting the result of the authentication to the onboard LAN; a relay device which relays communication with the external device and the onboard LAN; and a connection permission means which is connected to the onboard LAN, for permitting communication by the relay device with the onboard LAN and the external device when a successful authentication result of the authentication terminal by the vehicle-side authentication system is received.
