The equipment has chuck jaws (3) movably arranged in jaw guides (2) at a front end surface of a base body (1) made of rigid material and adjusted by adjusting mechanism i.e. wedge-bar mechanism, accommodated in the body. An actuator (8) with a housing (9) is provided at the front end surface of the body and a piston (11) axially and movably guided into the actuator. Coupling units are in engagement with each other, formed at the piston and one of the jaws and cooperated for converting radial position movement of the jaws into axial movement of the piston. An independent claim is also included for an actuator.
