A rotary switch includes a stator 4 surrounding a cylindrical rotor, stator 4 carrying flexible contact blades 5 supported by an extension on the end of stator 4, the rotor carrying a conductive shell on its outer surface arranged to make various electrical connections between blades 5 depending on the position of the rotor. An insulating cam on the rotor raises blades 5 at the instant of breaking contact. The insulating rotor is in two parts, one part having a split extension passing through the other, Fig. 3 (not shown), the extension having a slot to receive a dog fast with the part actuated by the operator (not shown). The embodiment described is a key operated ignition switch and developments of the rotor show the switch in the "stop" position, Fig. 4 (not shown), no electrical connection; the "accessories" position, Fig. 5 (not shown), two blades bridged; the "garage" position, Fig. 6 (not shown), no electrical connection; the "drive" position, Fig. 7 (not shown), supply to both the accessories and ignition coil; the "starter" position, Fig. 8 (not shown), supply to starter and ignition coil. A spring returns the rotor from the "starter" position to the "drive" position.</p> |
