In an apparatus at a card having a clothed cylinder, clothed doffer 19a and a stripper roller 6, which co-operate with one another at a work spacing, a side screen 18a is arranged at both ends of the cylinder and immovably mounted on a frame 24. A displacement device 21a is provided for the doffer in order to set a predetermined work spacing using a setting device. In order to keep substantially constant, in use, the working gap between, on the one hand, doffer and cylinder and, on the other hand, doffer and stripper roller, the side part 18a is coupled to the holding element 19a for the doffer by at least one force transport device 21a, and mechanical means 28 are associated with a holding device for the stripper roller, by which means the work spacing between the doffer and the stripper roller can be set.
