The method involves providing (S1) data of an area topology, data of a location of an area for a solar cell table arrangement, and data of power plant components e.g. inverters, which are provided for an open area photovoltaic power plant. A configuration of the arrangement of the power plant is provided (S2) based on the provided data for locating the power plant components. The data of the area topology is produced by interpolation of height data by triangulation. Compatibility of the components is tested relative to each other. A number of cable and service paths is calculated. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for creating a configuration of a solar cell table arrangement for an open area photovoltaic power plant (2) a computer program comprising instructions for performing a method for creating a configuration of a solar cell table arrangement for an open area photovoltaic power plant.
