Cigarettes or like articles 4 are transferred from an endless conveyer 5 to an endless conveyer 9 by a rotary wheel 11. The wheel has a plurality of radial extending fingers 14 attached to the upper and lower surfaces thereof to form a substantially continuous slot 16 therebetween in which to receive the ends 6 of the cigarettes, A pair of cam rails 18 adjacent the outer faces of the fingers 14 deflect said fingers to grip the cigarettes. Foam rubber pads 20 are fixed to those surfaces of the fingers which engage the cigarettes to prevent damage thereto. |
