Device for detecting flat objects on a carrier material

The device has an ultrasonic transmitting transducer (2) that emits sound pulses on a carrier material (6) on which flat object (9) is placed. An ultrasonic receiving transducer (3) receives attenuated sound signal from flat object. A measuring section (7) measures the attenuated sound signal and outputs measured value. An arithmetic unit evaluates the measured value and outputs output signal. The discriminator value which is mean value between lowest and highest values of received signal from flat object, is determined during evaluation process. An independent claim is included for method for detecting flat objects.
