The invention relates to a method and device for an assist system which serves for carrying out an autonomous or semi-autonomous driving maneuver of a vehicle, for example a parking assist system in a vehicle, image data being generated from vehicle surroundings by means of a camera system and being processed for carrying out the driving maneuver. The assist system is put in a safety mode when the system, based on the image data, recognizes that there is an impediment.
