<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel compound and composition having an antiviral activity and a method for therapeutic or prophylactic treatment of viral infections in mammals. <P>SOLUTION: According to a first aspect, there are provided a substituted acyl guanidine compound represented by formula (I) (wherein R1 is phenyl, substituted phenyl, naphthyl, substituted naphthyl or the like) and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. According to a second aspect, a pharmaceutical composition includes the compound according to the first aspect and optionally one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or derivatives.
