The method (10) involves determining an individual driving behavior (F) of a driver of a vehicle. Measurement data (MD) about a surrounding area of the vehicle is obtained. Time point and level of steering torque (Ma) for automatic intervention in a transverse guide of the vehicle are determined based on the measurement data. The determination of the level of the steering torque is performed as a function of the individual driving behavior. The start and/or the end of the automatic intervention are determined as the function of the individual driving behavior. An independent claim is also included for a monitoring system.
