1,199,867. Cutting apparatus. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 23 Aug., 1968 [23 Aug., 1967], No. 40350/68. Heading B4B. A severing device for strip or sheet material fed from a supply comprises a fixed knife 15 and a pivoted knife 16 normally held in the open position shown in Fig. 2 against the action of a spring 24 by means of a latch member 29 so that a strip 23 of material can pass between the knives, and a support plate 42 for the supply of material adapted to be moved away from the knives in order to effect the release of the latch member. The latch member 29 is connected to an arm 36 which is provided with a slot 44 through which passes a pin 43 attached to the support 42. In order to sever the strip material, the support 42 is moved to the right as viewed in Fig. 1 until the pin 43 abuts a shoulder 46 in the arm 36 thereby moving the latter to release the latch 29; continued movement of the support causes a cam surface 40 on the arm 36 to engage with a fixed pin 47 thereby allowing the arm 36 to return and so reset the latch. The knife 16 is re-cocked to the position shown in Fig. 2, by means of a lever 53.
|
