A salt supply container for a softening device in an electric domestic apparatus is characterised in that the bottom of the container can be urged against a pressure sensitive switch. The salt-supply container 1 comprises a tubular wall 3 provided with a screw-thread 5 to engage cover 7, a water-supply pipe 9 and a salt-solution discharge pipe 13 which abuts filter 15. The bottom 11 of the container is secured to a resilient pot 19 which has a resilient bottom 21 provided with expandable corrugations 23, to enable said bottom 21 to be raised and lowered, and supported by a base plate 25 having an annular part 27 embracing the pot 19 and secured to the container wall A compression spring 29 is arranged between the base plate 25 and the bottom of the container 11 and the base plate also carries a pressure sensitive switch 33 with contact 35. The switch 33 is connected into the main electric circuit of the apparatus in such a way that when a sufficient pressure is imposed, i.e. by weight of salt in the container, the circuit is complete. As the salt is washed away the weight on plate 11 decreases, the plate is raised by spring 29 and the circuit is broken. |
