1,208,866. Primary unsaturated esters. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 26 Feb., 1968 [29 March, 1967; 19 April, 1967], Nos. 14310/67 and 18008/67. Heading C2C. Primary unsaturated esters are produced by contacting an alpha-olefine containing at least four carbon atoms and incorporating the structure -C-C = CH 2 with a palladium salt in the presence of a carboxylic acid, carboxylate ions additional to any provided by self-ionization of the carboxylic acid, molecular oxygen and a redox system, either under anhydrous conditions or, in the presence of at most 20% by weight water, the carboxylate ion concentration being at least 0À2 mole per litre, the reaction medium being essentially free from halide ions. Examples describe the preparation of vinyl ester 2-acetoxyoctene-1, dioctenylphthalate and octenyl hydrogen phthalate. |
