1,213,177. Coating with metals. BURROUGHS CORP. Nov. 8, 1968 [Nov.22, 1967], No.53107/68. Headings C7B and C7F. A substrate of e.g. ceramics, glass, waxy materials, nylon, acrylic resin, p.v.c. or glass filled phenolic resin is electrolessly coated with Co, Ni, Cr or Cu by first cleaning, etching with hydrofluoric acid, cleaning in an ultrasonically agitated solution containing a surfactant, immersing in an ultrasonically agitated liquid including colloidal particles of a catalytic metal, immersing in an ultrasonically agitated activating solution, and then in an electroless plating solution which may be mildly agitated. The catalytic material may be Fe, Co, Ni, Pd, Cu, Pb, Sn, Mo or carbon. The article may be subsequently electro-plated with Cu and then bright or satin Ni, and finally Cr. The substrate may be dipped in HCl prior to Cu plating and in H2SO4 prior to Ni plating.
|
