[Also in Divisions B1-B2] A threaded fastener element 10 is provided with self-locking means comprising a patch of tough, resilient plastics material 12 on a threaded portion, which is formed by directing a stream of resin particles from a jet 42 on to the selected portion of the preheated threaded element 10 while this is being carried by conveyer 25. The resin adheres, melts, and on cooling forms a continuous patch which extends further circumferentially at the crowns than it does at the roots. The resin may be a polyamide or polyester such as nylon and to improve adhesion, a primer material such as a solution of a polyamide, epoxy or resorcinol aldehyde resin may be used.
