PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to eliminate the need to separately supply a common voltage as a pixel electrode and a common electrode of a previous sub pixel area share the same voltage. CONSTITUTION: A first substrate includes a first electrode(220a) and a second electrode(220b) formed in a plurality of sub pixel areas and a third electrode(226b) and a fourth electrode(226a) separated from the first and the second electrodes while having a protective layer in a gap. The first electrode of an Nth sub pixel area and the second electrode of an Nth+1 sub pixel area are connected with each other. The third sub pixel area of the Nth+1 sub pixel area and the fourth electrode of an Nth+2 sub pixel area are connected with each other.
