An olefinic or cycloolefinic (bi-secondary) hydrocarbon is contacted with a catalyst contng. a tungsten oxide (I) and an aluminium halide (II) with a II/I ratio of 0.1 to 50, pref. at 10-100 degrees C. The tungsten oxide may be in the form of a tungstic acid/heteropolyacid/isopolyacid or their salts. The process can be used to convert acyclic hydrocarbon to the lower or higher ethylenic hydrocarbon or to convert cyclic hydrocarbons to polymers.
|
