A filter comprises a series of trays 11, linked to form an endless band and supported on rollers 7 for movement round the upper and lower runs of a track system 1 (Fig. 1, not shown), each tray having a section of filter cloth, supported on a mesh 12 and moulding 13, 14, through which filtrate flows to pipe 16 which connects the tray to a respective one of a series of vacuum boxes 22, which move in alignment with the band, the boxes 22 along the upper run communicating through apertures in their bases with a vacuum trough 18, from which filtrate is drawn. The trough may be divided for separately collecting filtrate from different parts of the upper run, where adjustable slurry feed and filter cake washing devices are arranged. Filter cake falls from each tray as it enters the lower run, where the tray may be washed, dried and re-heated. Boxes 22 are mounted on a rubber belt and moved by chains 21. Two series of boxes 22 may be supplied, each tray being connected to one box in each series, and each series running over its own trough 18. The band is driven by overhead chains 8 (Fig. 1, not shown). Rollers 7 are polyurethane and the trays may be stainless steel, rubber-coated mild steel and/or polyurethane. Vacuum trough(s) 18 could be located between the upper and lower runs of trays. |
