An apparatus and a method for controlling a stepping motor in an ATM(Automatic Teller Machine) are provided to prevent the damage of the stepping motor by checking duration of a weak exciting driving signal of the stepping motor. An apparatus for controlling a stepping motor in an ATM includes a stepping motor(500), a driving unit(510), a counter unit(520), and a control unit(530). The stepping motor performs input and output of paper money. The driving unit generates a medium exciting driving signal to the stepping motor. The counter unit counts clock signals for a phase of the stepping motor. The control unit receives the clock signals for the phase of the stepping motor from the counter unit and outputs a control signal to the driving unit so that the driving unit interrupts the phase of the stepping motor. |
