<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an optical function element to be constituted in such a state that the optical function element can be miniaturized and can be easily manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: The optical function element includes at least an optical waveguide 101 and a polarization splitting part 102 disposed on the output side of the optical waveguide 101. A phase modulation signal 121 which has polarization inclined at 45° with respect to an intrinsic polarization plane of the optical waveguide 101 or being in a circularly polarized state is inputted to the optical waveguide 102, and the optical waveguide 101 has such an optical waveguide length that the difference in propagation time between a first polarized wave 122 parallel with the intrinsic polarization plane and a second polarized wave 123 vertical to the intrinsic polarization plane is a time corresponding to one bit of the phase modulation signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
