PURPOSE: A composition and a cosmetic composition containing a Coptidis rhizoma extract are provided to suppress the growth of pancreatic cancer cells and to induce pancreatic cancer cell apoptosis. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for treating pancreatic cancer contains an ethanol extract of Coptidis rhizoma as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared at 50 deg. C for 24 hours and is dried and concentrated at a reduced pressure at 45 deg. C. The composition contains a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent.
