A solar powered gas turbine engine receives solar radiation 2 through windows 5 into heating zone 7. The turbine engine has a compressor 10 and turbine 9. The turbine 9 may receive further solar radiation 2 which heats parts of the turbine such as blades 8, to provide turbine re-heat. The radiation may be provided by a solar concentrator with a first concave mirror, a second convex mirror (1, 3, figure 1) and third mirrors or prisms (4, figure 2) to distribute the light to appropriate parts of the gas turbine engine.
