[Also in Divisions A4 and E2] A stand for fixing to a table top &c. 11 in a vertical position comprises a rod 1, an arm 4 mounting a screw 7 for rotation about an axis parallel to the rod, and a jaw 8 pivoted to a slide 9 movable on the rod, the jaw having gripping surfaces 12 which clamp against the rod when the stand is fitted to a surface and the screw tightened the rod, the slide, and the jaw being of U-shaped cross-section. Each limb of the jaw may define, at its end adjacent the rod, a gripping surface 12 offset by a small angle from an abutting surface 13, these surfaces being cooperable with ends of the limbs of the rod (Fig. 4). The jaw 8 may have a pad P on its surface facing the screw, and the screw may have a pad 6 of resin at its end. Extensions 2, 3 normally folded into the channel of the rod, may be unfolded and secured in a vertical position. Reference is made to Specification 1,234,371. |
