An actuator button assembly for a pressurized dispensing container or pump-type dispensing container, comprises a base portion 22 fitted to the container neck by flanges 35, and an actuator button 19 mounted on the base for movement between operative and inoperative positions. The button 19 has cam follower pins 32 on either side of an arcuate cam ridge on base 22. Rotation of the button relative to the base causing the button and its discharge spout 20 to move from a retracted position, Fig. 3 (not shown), in which the spout 20 is closed by a side wall of the base and a valve stem or pump plunger-engaging recess 34 is out of register with the stem or plunger 27, into a projected position, Fig. 5 (not shown), in which spout 20 projects clear of side wall 26 and recess 34 registers with stem or plunger 27. In the projected position, pins 32 register with clearance apertures in base 22 to permit downward, operating movement of the button 19. When the button is rotated in the opposite direction, pins 32 engage inclined cam surfaces to release recess 34 from stem or plunger 27. A cap, Fig. 1 (not shown), is snapfitted over the button and base assembly, and has apertures for button 19 and spout 20 to project through, "open" and "locked" legends on the button assembly being visible through the aperture for the button. The cap is rotatable relative to the base and has ridges engaging the button assembly to rotate it. The spout may be formed as a spray head. A member (38) may be provided on the base for closing recess 34 when the button assembly is in its retracted position Fig. 7 (not shown). A frangible closure plate (40) may be provided in the cap aperture for the spout to indicate whether the container has been used, Fig. 8 (not shown). Instead of the cap aperture for the button, the top of the cap may have a depressible hinged portion for engaging the button, Fig. 10 (not shown). For continuous discharge of a pressurized container, the button may be held in its depressed position by inter-engaging cam means formed on the cap and the button, the button being slidable relative to the spout to engage and disengage the cam means, Figs. 12 to 14 (not shown). In the embodiment of Figs. 15 to 18 (not shown), the base member has an arcuate groove engaged by a pin on the button and spout assembly. The button protrudes through a slot in the top of the cap and is prevented from moving by a removable tab in the slot prior to use. A skirt may be provided to cover the top of the container between its rim and the actuator assembly, Fig. 19 (not shown).
