[Also in Division H2] A protective arrangement, e.g. for an electric motor, comprises a sealed magnetic reed contact device 30c having a control winding 35 connected in circuit with temperature responsive resistors (not shown), and a permanent magnet 31 which may be displaced against the action of biasing means 33 to close the reed contacts 45. Depending on the adjustment of a screw 34, the contacts may open or remain closed when the magnet is restored to its initial position if the winding 35 is not energized. Thus in an arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown), using negative temperature coefficient resistors in a bridge circuit across which the winding 35 is connected, the contacts 45 are normally held closed by the magnet and are opened when the resistance of the resistors falls to unbalance the bridge to cause the winding to be energized and to oppose the magnet. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the contacts 45 are normally maintained closed by the winding 35 which is connected in series with positive temperature coefficient resistors, the contacts 45 opening when the current in the winding falls due to increase in resistance of the resistors.</p> |
