PURPOSE: A transmission and reception method for cell detection and a device thereof are provided to reduce cell detection complexity of a terminal in a wireless communications system supporting multiple carrier types, and to allow the design and transmission of new type carrier synchronization signals in order to prevent a terminal supporting only a general type carrier from being connected to the new type carrier. CONSTITUTION: A transmission and reception method for cell detection in a wireless communications system includes the following processes and method: a process generating carrier type indication signals representing carrier types supported by a base station; a base station transmission method including a process transmitting synchronization signals, to be used for detecting a cell for the connection to a base station according to carrier types, to a terminal in a cell along with the carrier type indication signals; a process verifying carrier types supported by a base station when detecting the carrier type indication signals transmitted from the base station; and a process detecting a cell for the connection to the base station according to the carrier types.
