[Also in Division F2] A clamp for securing a structural tube to an apertured wall comprises a pair of expanding jaws which are simultaneously retracted to hold the wall against the end of the tube. In the form shown in Fig. 1, securing a structural tube 1, 2 to a bracket 10, a pair of jaws 12, 13 expand within the inner tube 2 to grip it and a pair of projecting arms 5, 6 which are expanded apart by a screw 9 to grip in a recess 10b in wall 10 by means of hooks 7, 8. The jaws 5, 6 have holes 23, 24 in which ramps 17, 18 act to tension them against the wall as the screw 9 is tightened. Teeth 22 on jaws grip the inner surface of the inner tube 2 of the structural unit. The jaws may be of metal or plastics. In a modification, Fig. 2, for securing rectangular structural members, the ramps 44, 45 of the outer clamping jaws are in front of the springs 52, 53, the screw 55 lying within these. The outer clamping jaws may extend beyond the tube (Fig. 3, not shown). The ramps may be at the rear end of the inner jaws, Fig. 4, and the outer jaws may be keyed to the tube, the springs being dispensed with. In addition (Fig. 5, not shown) the inner and outer clamping jaws may have interengaging teeth (139, 140) which assist the relative axial movement of these jaws. Alternatively (Fig. 6, not shown) this axial pressure is derived from toggle links (208, 210) between the inner and outer sets of jaws. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the outer jaws consist of springs 220, 221, axial pressure being derived from limbs 225, 226 engaging the turned-up ends 223a, 224a of the inner jaws. In a further modification, Fig. 8a, the single set of jaws 233, 234 serve to engage both structural elements by means of hooks 237, 238 and teeth 240, 241 and 245, 246, respectively, the axial movement being provided by springs 235, 236 whose ends engage the outside of the wall. The members may be of circular or rectangular section; the jaws being shaped accordingly, and the bolt may be replaced by wedges or eccentrics, and the locking members may be moved to the fastening position by an explosive charge or encapsulated liquid gas.
