1351496 Vinyl and allyl acetates by pyrolysis HALCON INTERNATIONAL Inc 27 April 1971 [27 April 1970] 11599/71 Heading C2C Vinyl and allyl acetate are prepared by pyrolysing a feed consisting of ethylene or propylene glycol diacetate respectively, the feed before pyrolysis being subjected to esterification in order to reduce the concentration therein of incompletely esterified alkylene glycols. The esterification is preferably carried out at a temperature of from 50 to 300‹ C. in the presence of an acid catalyst. The feed may be obtained by catalytically oxidizing an alkene in acetic acid. A suitable apparatus in which to carry out the process of the invention is described.
