An image display device comprises: an acquisition unit which, when an operation which surrounds an arbitrary region in a display screen by sequential instruction inputs by a user, acquires location information which represents a location which is denoted by the sequential instruction inputs; a recognition unit which identifies a region which is bounded by the track of the acquired location information and recognizes the bounded region as a selected region; a determination unit which determines to enlarge an image which is displayed in an image display region according to a degree of scaling which is determined based on the range of the selected region and the range of the image display region; and a display control unit which displays a post-conversion image which is enlarged according to the determined degree of scaling in the display region while aligning the center of the post-conversion image with the center of the image display region. It is thus possible for the user to instinctively select an area in an image which the user wants to enlarge.
