<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a single manual ventilation or resuscitation device that can be used on any patient, regardless of individual factors such as physical condition, body/lung size, age and sex. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided the manual ventilation or resuscitation device 100. The body 110 of the device has rigid panels 140A, 140B, 140D, 140E, 140F, 140G, 140H that encompass a sealed volume with an inlet mechanism and an outlet mechanism 120, 130. The rigid panels are movable with respect to each other to allow the body 110 to move between an uncompressed state and a compressed state. The body 110 has a displacement in a direction of a hand displacement and at least one other direction. The displacement in at least the other direction is a function of the displacement and dimensions and relative angles of the panels.
