The method involves including a cooling circuit that has a compressor-condenser set (VVS), a vaporizer (D1) and inflow and outflow lines (LZ,LA) connected to the vaporizer, where the compressor-condenser set of temporal sequence of processing sequence includes normal mode i.e. supply of vaporizer with coolant, a standby mode i.e. no coolant flow between the compressor-condenser-set and vaporizer during maintenance of coolant pressure in the compressor-condenser set, or a suction mode. The switchover between normal and standby modes takes place depending on manufacturing process status. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for performing the method for controlling the coolant flow in a closed cooling circuit filled with a phase changing coolant by a controlling device for cooling the tools of plastic processing machines.
