PURPOSE: A video contrast ratio improvement method and an apparatus thereof are provided to increase contrast ratio of an effective area by automatically setting up an effective area. CONSTITUTION: A video contrast improving apparatus inputs a video(S420). The apparatus automatically sets up an effective area from an input area(S440). The apparatus applies a proper image quality improving algorithm to the predetermined effective area(S460). The apparatus fuses the input image with an image of the improved image(S480).
