1,267,476. Elastomeric bushings. CLEVITE CORP. 9 April, 1970 [14 April, 1969], No. 16951/70. Heading F2S. A bushing 12a consisting of a rubber sleeve inserted between inner and outer rigid sleeves 14<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP> is assembled by first forcing the rubber sleeve into the space between the rigid sleeves, under radial compression with or without bonding. After producing this (known) assembly, either the inner or the outer sleeve is deformed out-of-round (e.g. to elliptical or oval) so that the resulting assembly will have different spring rates in different radial directions. Fig. 2 depicts an apparatus 18, 22 by which the outer sleeve may be deformed to produce the Fig. 4 assembly. Figs. 9, 11, 12 (not shown) depict an apparatus including a substantially elliptical section plunger (26) by which the inner sleeve, instead of the outer, may be deformed out-ofround. |
