PURPOSE: A high speed asynchronous serial communications controller supporting a user defined serial communications protocol for providing an automatic communications effort detection and correction function, an automatic communications code insertion and message filtering function, and a noise filtering function is provided to automatically process error detection in the hardware of an asynchronous serial communications controller, thereby minimizing the occupation of CPU(Central Processing Unit) time resource. CONSTITUTION: An asynchronous serial communications controller includes a host interface unit(10), a baud rate generator(20), a byte transmit controller(30), and a transmitter FIFO(First In First Out) buffer(40). The asynchronous serial communications controller includes a frame transmit controller(41), a transmitter input MUX(Multiplexer)(42), a noise filter(50), a byte receive controller(54) and a frame receiver(60). The asynchronous serial communications controller is composed of a receiver power MUX (63), a receiver FIFO buffer(70), an Rx(Receive) Timeout timer(80), a register(90), and an interrupt controller(100). The baud rate generator includes a PLL(Phase Locked Loop)(21), a prescaler(22), and a divider(23). The frame receiver includes a frame receive controller(61) and a frame buffer(62).
