A spectacle frame incorporating removable lens mounting means 65 and a resilient pad 58 overlying the nasal bridge of the wearer has side members 43 whose ends 50 curve slightly upwards and whose rear sections 47 are made of resilient material, these rear sections being urged inwardly against the posterior of the skull of the wearer in the temporal-parietal-occipital area so that the frame engages only the least sensitive areas of the nose and skull. The forward section 46 of each side member is of conventional design and is press fitted or otherwise secured to an elongated metal rod 48 extending from the corresponding rear section 47. The nose pad 58 is removably secured by a metal snap 56 in a recess 57 formed in the rear face of the bridge 55 of the frame, Fig.8. The rear face of the front section 42 of the frame is provided with two curved grooves, open and closed at their inner and outer ends respectively; in each groove is removably mounted, Fig.7, a steel lens supporting member 65 provided with a groove 67 in which is rivetted the upper edge of a lens L. Magnets 72 or magnetic foamed liners may be provided to prevent undesirable relative movement between the members 65 and the front section 42. In alternative embodiments the front section 42 and the side arms 43 may be made from a continuous strip of spring steel bent into a generally U-shaped configuration, Fig. 1 (not shown), and provision may be made for the removable mounting of decorative overlays to the frame, Figs. 10-12 (not shown).</p> |
